How Islam can Preserve the Concept of Family | Family Values in Islam

family in islam

Family is the heart of society. The creation and growth of social relationships are centered on the family. The foundation of the first unity of mankind is the family. The first family was formed around the first human being Adam (peace be upon him) and his wife Eve (peace be upon him) in Paradise. Allah the Almighty said, ‘O Adam! You live in Paradise with your wife. Eat whatever you wish, but do not approach this tree. '(Surat al-Baqara: 35) The foundation of the family is laid when a man and a woman are married and start living together. Family is the source of endless happiness. In Islam, there is an opportunity to form all kinds of families, big and small, single and single. Islam has instructed the husband and wife to live a life of love, cordiality, and amity without compromising family life. Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): “Live with women in a good way.” (Surat an-Nisa ': 19). The people of third-world countries are much happier mentally compared to other western countries due to the advanced family-centered culture. Nobel laureate Amartya Sen has written about this aspect of our happiness. Due to the consumerist mentality and the changed social system, It has cracked the place of happiness. The bonds of family happiness are being torn to pieces. Associated with this is the 'culture' of rape, the murder of relatives, the murder of children at the hands of parents, the murder of parents at the hands of children, domestic killings, and suicide.

Women in western countries

In 1998, 13 lakh 85 thousand 630 abortions were performed in the United States. (Source: The world Almanac-2002, pp-88) One hundred and ninety-three thousand 700 abortions were performed in 2006 in England, the torchbearer of European civilization. (Source: Abortion statistics, England and Wales-2006). Also, Western women are suffering from sexually transmitted diseases. Statistics from Canada show that chlamydia is six times more common and gonorrhea is twice as common among young people aged 15 to 19 than among peers. As we know, AIDS is mostly spread through sex. In this case, it is 18 times more likely to be transmitted from women to men than from men to women. Due to this, the number of women infected with AIDS is much higher than men in different countries of the world. In Brazil, for example, between 1994 and 1998, the number of AIDS cases among women increased by more than 75 percent, while the number of AIDS cases among men increased by just over 10 percent. (Source: A New Psychology of Women. Pp-297-298)

According to the NCVS, there were 133,000 cases of sexual harassment in the United States in 1998. And there are about two lakh rapes (on average one rape in about two and a half minutes) [Source: 'Rape'. The Encarta Encyclopaedia.)

She has to endure the sexual harassment from a friend to save a relationship, from an officer to save a job, from a stepfather to save a shelter and from a powerful man to save her life. Another great oppression of women in the West is that this civilization has taken away the peaceful family life of women. Motherhood, which brings the consummation to a woman of her femininity, for which a woman craves for her entire life, has been thwarted. Her womb is ready to bear the next generation, her breasts are ready to nourish, the affection of her heart is ready to develop their mind, the women of that society today are not interested in conceiving children. She has been told that you have to prove yourself by doing what men do. You have to earn, you have to build a career. And the birth of a child is a big obstacle in the way of her proving herself. So western women today want to be free from this problem. The materialistic society of the West has imposed on women the burden of this extra work of men. On the one hand, she has to take care of the children, do all the household chores; On the other hand, there is an additional burden of work in the office. What a miserable life these women lead just to compete with men! Canadian sociologists Reginald Wayne Bibby and Donald Posterski painted this tragic picture of women as follows: ‘There is little room for doubt that the multifaceted demands of a professional mother put her under great pressure. … Women who work twice a day have to bear a heavy burden and the price they have to pay is huge. They work long hours and don’t get any leisure. They are subjected to high levels of stress. (Teen Trends. P-152)

Family structure and modern life

The spread of sexually transmitted diseases, more orphans of living parents, the reluctance of young people to marry, increase in violence against women, homelessness in old age, increase in drug use, increase in alcohol consumption, population decline, etc are quite common in the western world. There is no marriage, reluctance towards marriage. The house is a wasteland, there is no family. There are more ‘Love Children’ than legitimate children. It is a picture of Western society. Mikhail Gorbachev is the last president of the Soviet Union. He has written a book in Russian. The book has been translated into English. One of the chapters in his book is 'Status of Women'. In this chapter, he writes, we have brought women out of the house through tireless revolution, brought them to the streets, put them in chairs, allowed them to work in factories. At all levels, we have gained some material gain by allowing women to work. When both men and women work together, there is more profit; But we have suffered much more than that. Our personal and family tenderness and serenity have been lost. He added, ‘At the last stage of my life, I want to create another revolution. Through the first revolution, I destroyed the family tradition and brought girls out of the house. This will be the second revolution, we will bring them back inside the house. So that our family happiness comes back. (Source: Women Behind Modernity, Zainab Akhter Sohail, p. 185)

Professor John Esposito wrote a book in 1992. The book is published by Oxford University. The name of the book is ‘Islam: The Straight Path’. There, he writes, the common man in the Western world, especially in non-Muslim countries, is becoming restless in character and moral deviance. There they are looking at the family life system of Islam with a great jealousy. Millions of families are being destroyed because of Western civilization and culture. Millions of children there are being subjected to inhumane treatment, brutality, and deprivation of maternal and paternal affection.

Marabel Morgan is an American woman. She has written a book called ‘The Total Women’. In this book, she advises American women to live a beautiful married life: 'Be nice to your husband, stop nagging him and understand his needs' that is,' be your husband's best companion, do not abuse him. Feel the need. ’The book sold more than three million copies in one year. To Morgan, Total Woman is being the best companion to their husbands for women. (Times of India, Fb., 1978)

It is not the case that violence against women does not occur even in Muslim countries. But who is responsible for this? Ithaca College of New York, Political Science, Professor.
Asma Barlas said in a speech at the Los Angeles Library of Congress, "Islam has nothing to do with the occasional picture of violence against women in some Muslim countries. This is the local culture there. This is due to the environment or ignorance of Islam or distance from Islam. '(MARCH 2004, Lecturer of the Library of Congress)
